How much does Solar Cost?
We've got the lowdown on all your burning questions below, as well as a snazzy tool that lets you measure your roof for a personalised quote estimate!
Solar Panel Cost:
Globally, the price of solar panels per watt has decreased significantly, as technology advances, efficiency improves and the popularity in renewable energy increases. Our World Data states that panel prices have fallen by around 20% every time global capacity doubled.
Though Solar Panels are expected to continue to decrease over the coming years, the financial benefits of going solar today outweighs the savings you might make if you wait to buy solar panels in a few years’ time. You’ll start saving electricity on your bills immediately and can lock in those savings as energy prices rise.
But don’t forget there are also other components that will make up your solar panel installation and contribute to your final quote price.
Battery Storage:
Battery Storage enables you to use your solar generation at any given time, storing that energy when the sun is shining until you need it in the evening. Batteries can also charge during off-peak hours on cheaper rates for later use, minimising your demand from the grid.
Like solar panels, the cost of solar batteries have also gotten cheaper, so now is the perfect time to invest!
-
Brand: Different brands have different costs. We work with a range of solar battery companies and can give you the option to choose depending on your preference and how much you want to spend on a battery.
-
Chemical Composition: Different materials influence the discharge rate and lifespan of a product. For instance, lithium-ion batteries can discharge between 70-90% of its total storage capacity, whereas a lead-acid battery typically discharges only 50%. Due to this, we will only advice installing Lithium-ion batteries. Though these are slightly more expensive, the efficiency and longer lifespan outweighs the price difference.
-
Storage capacity: this refers to the total amount of energy your battery can store. A larger capacity means it can store more energy and support a larger area; thus, it will result in a higher price.
Solar batteries are often a notable addition to your solar installation quote, but they will also create greater savings for your home or business.
Scaffolding:
Unless you are installing a ground mount, then scaffolding is a pretty essential element of a solar panel installation. We are very flexible when it comes to scaffolding, organising this on your behalf, or leaving you to instruct a local scaffolder. Scaffolding details can be discussed on a site survey with one of our team.Schemes and Subsides:
- Smart Export Guarantee was launch on the 1st January 2020 and allows you to sell any left-over solar generation back to the grid. This means your solar generation is not wasted, and you get paid for anything you don't use.
- And, as of April 2022, the government announced that all renewable energy installations and associated parts (including battery storage) will have 0% VAT. This somewhat decreases the overall cost of your installation.
Solar Installation:
Your Solar Panel installation will also include mounting racks to attach the panels to your roof or stand them up in your field/garden, an inverter to convert the solar generated electricity into electricity that you can use in your home and business, and all the electrical work at your property to make this possible. And, as discussed above you also have the option to add battery storage. So, with all that considered, how much does an average solar installation cost?
